Gulf Coast Gladiators Partner with Control Overdose Films to Bring Powerful Community Story to the Big Screen
Mobile, Alabama – The Gulf Coast Gladiators are proud to announce a transformative new partnership with Control Overdose Films LLC for the production of a compelling feature film that highlights the lives of two brothers whose choices lead them down dramatically different life paths. This collaboration represents more than a movie—it is an inspiring opportunity to bring a meaningful, homegrown story to the Gulf Coast community and showcase the region’s creative talent on a national stage.
Control Overdose Films LLC, led by filmmaker VaShawn Nixon, brings passion, resilience, and a powerful vision to this project. A graduate of Leflore High School, Nixon has steadily built his name in the film industry, contributing as a camera operator and drone operator on Showtime’s documentary The Resurgence: DeMarcus Cousins. Like trailblazers Spike Lee and Tyler Perry, Nixon launched his own production company to tell bold, original stories. As a one-man creative force—serving as Director, Producer, DP, Writer, and even actor—he has proven that determination and creativity can open doors. His feature film Gunned Down is currently streaming on Amazon Prime, and his film P.O.V. premiered at the Saenger Theater in 2024.
Joining the cast is seasoned actor and stunt performer Drew Williams, whose impressive resume includes roles in Emancipation, Hot Seat, Black and Blue, Jesus Revolution, and I Still Believe. Williams brings depth, professionalism, and on-set expertise, both in front of and behind the camera, ensuring every scene is executed with excellence and safety.
