Charlie L. McCants grew up in Monroeville, Alabama, one of 13 siblings in a home that taught him the meaning of sacrifice and unity. After high school, he moved to New York and soon joined the Air Force, beginning a 20-year journey that would take him across five continents and instill the discipline and resilience that still defines him today. With an Electronic Technology degree under his belt, Charlie transitioned into a Micro Chip Mechanical Engineer at Motorola, where he worked for over a decade. But Charlie wasn’t done evolving.
In 2000, he turned to entrepreneurship, mastering trades from physical training to home restoration. That led him to Gulfport, Mississippi, where in 2010 he discovered the ABA—and in 2013, launched his own team: the Gulf Coast Gladiators.
Charlie’s journey hasn’t been without trials. He is a survivor of both stomach and prostate cancer. “God brought me through it,” he says, “so I could continue to be a blessing to others.” More than wins and losses, Charlie saw an opportunity to mentor, inspire, and build dreams. “We’re not just basketball—we’re about changing lives,” he says. His story continues, one player, one game, and one life at a time.
