Celebrating the Incredible Yvonne Matthews Music – A Legacy of Music, Ministry & Impact!
The Gulf Coast Gladiators proudly recognize and celebrate Yvonne Reed Matthews, a musical powerhouse, educator, and community leader whose extraordinary journey continues to inspire.
As the founder of Nu Image and Youth On the Winning Side, Yvonne has dedicated her life to shaping young talent and spreading the power of gospel music. Her passion for music and education led her to serve as a choral instructor and administrator at John L. LeFlore School of Communication and Arts and several other Mobile County high schools.
Yvonne’s musical legacy spans decades, from her classical training at the University of South Alabama, where she earned a Bachelor of Music in piano and a Master of Education degree, to touring Europe and the U.S. to share her incredible talent. She has taken center stage in churches, theaters, concert halls, and beyond—each performance a testament to her deep-rooted faith and devotion to God.
Her debut album, GLAD, skyrocketed her visibility, amassing over 1 million views on the “Glad” music video and over 603,000 views on “I Owe You Me.” She followed up with her Christmas EP (2020), “Church Girl” CD (2021), and latest releases, including “Never Alone” and the single “Jehovah Shammah.” Her projects, produced by Grammy and Stellar Award-winning Rosco Carstarphen Jr., feature collaborations with American Idol contestant Tyler N. Allen and the late C. Ashley Brown-Lawrence.
Beyond music, Yvonne was commissioned to write and debut SOULS OF TIME (2024), a stage production celebrating African American history, which captivated nearly 2,000 attendees and made its highly anticipated return in January 2025.
Through her Front Porch Ministry and spontaneous Pop-Up Praise moments, Yvonne continues to share her faith, touching hearts around the world.
At the core of her journey is the unwavering support of her husband, Carlton Matthews, a retired U.S. Marine First Sergeant and Department of Defense Chief of Police, who stands by her side as they uplift communities both locally and globally. Together, they share a love for adventure, often seen riding the open roads on their Goldwing motorcycle.
Yvonne attributes her success to God, her devoted husband, family, and an incredible support system. Her journey is far from over, and we are honored to recognize her outstanding contributions to music, education, and faith.
